The segmented twin-shaft extruder has been the standard technology for the continuous processing of plastics for decades. It is also indispensable for demanding processes in the food and animal feed industry. One thing unites all our components: in terms of quality they always meet at least the standards of the original manufacturers. With our comprehensive material expertise and modern machinery, we also realise individual customised solutions exactly to your specifications.

Segments

Twin-shaft extruders today are almost without exception characterised by their modular design, because this is the basis for maximum flexibility in the process. Specialised screw segments are precisely mounted on a common support shaft. This allows us to adapt the profile exactly to your particular process task. We master the entire spectrum of functional components, from conveying and back-conveying elements through to restrictive, kneading and mixing elements.

We optimise the inherently, theoretically self-cleaning Erdmenger profile through targeted modifications to the outer and inner diameter of the segments, going far beyond the standard.

Wherever the intake and conveying capacity is to be increased or critical temperature and shear stress peaks have to be reduced, we deviate on a technologically sound basis from the classic closely intermeshing profile. In this way we specifically optimise the geometry and transform standard components into high-performance solutions for your production.

Support Shafts

The support shaft is the central element for transmitting the drive forces to the screw segments. An extremely high torque is decisive for the economic success of your extrusion, because the shaft design sets tight geometric limits. We make sure that your shafts withstand this maximum level of mechanical stress.

Barrel

We adapt the arrangement of the barrels (cylinders) of a twin-shaft extruder exactly to your particular process task. We master the entire range, from feed and degassing barrels through side-feed and combi barrels to closed designs.

This individual configuration allows materials to be precisely fed in along the process section or specifically degassed. At the same time, integrated bore systems ensure optimum temperature control.

The barrel is one of the most valuable components in the process section. We therefore rely on durable wear bushings as highly efficient protection. During an overhaul we replace only these bushings if required. This preserves the high-quality outer body. That conserves resources. As long as the integrated cooling system remains free of deposits or corrosion, we thus ensure the long-term reusability of your core components.

C.A.PICARD® supplies you with barrels with or without wear bushings, as well as individual bushings, in the highest manufacturing quality. Our specialised service does not only cover the precise bushing replacement. We also offer you the technological upgrade: we convert your solid barrels into efficient versions with replaceable bushings, so that you can operate more flexibly and more cost-effectively in future.
