Barrel

The arrangement of the barrels or cylinders of a twin-screw extruder is variable, we adapt it to the process task. A distinction is made between feed, side-feed, degassing, combi and closed barrels. Depending on the configuration, materials can be fed in along the process section or also removed (degassed). As a rule, the barrels are equipped with a bore system for temperature control.

The barrel is a particularly high-quality component for the twin-screw extruder. It is therefore often fitted with a wear bushing. This saves material and resources: if we determine during an overhaul that certain wear limits have been exceeded, we replace only this bushing with a new one. The valuable outer body is retained and can be reused, as long as the cooling system has not become unusable due to deposits or corrosion.
